Realizing that your hearing isn’t what it used to be can feel overwhelming. Hearing loss is incredibly common, affecting an estimated 13% of people aged 12 and older in the United States, but that doesn’t make the experience any less personal. The good news is that modern hearing loss treatment is a clear, supportive process designed to help you hear more comfortably and confidently.
Step One: Your Hearing Evaluation

Your journey begins with a comprehensive hearing test. During this appointment, we’ll measure how well you hear different pitches and volumes using a pure tone hearing test.
Once your test is complete, your specialist will review the findings with you and discuss potential hearing aid styles that fit your hearing needs and lifestyle. These may include devices worn behind the ear, options with discreet receivers that sit inside the ear canal or custom-made models designed to fit partially or entirely within the ear. The recommendation will depend on factors like the degree of hearing loss, dexterity, cosmetic preferences and the features you’re interested in.
Step Two: Selecting and Programming Your Devices
After choosing your hearing aids, we’ll order the devices for you. When they arrive, you’ll return for a fitting appointment. This visit is all about personalization. We’ll program the hearing aids to match your specific hearing loss and comfort levels.
You’ll also receive hands-on guidance, including how to properly insert and remove your hearing aids, clean and maintain them and charge or change batteries as needed. If your devices connect to a smartphone app, we’ll show you how to adjust settings.
Step Three: Adjusting to Better Hearing
Wearing hearing aids is an adjustment, and that’s completely normal. At first, everyday sounds, like footsteps, swings squeaking in Dig World Park or your upstairs neighbor on their treadmill, may seem unusually loud or sharp. Your brain is simply relearning sounds it hasn’t heard clearly in some time.
Most people adapt within a few weeks, and follow-up appointments allow your specialist to make small adjustments to ensure perfect comfort and performance.
