Kayaking at The Hidden Lake or playing games in the park with your family are excellent ways to spend your summer. If you’re among the 28.8 million U.S. adults with hearing aids, learning how to care for your devices in the heat is an essential part of your summer fun.[1]
Let’s look at a few care tips to keep in mind this season.
1. Clean Your Hearing Aids Daily

Summer kicks up a lot of sweat and dirt that can easily clog your devices. When the microphone and speaker get clogged, common distortions include whistling or muffled noise. Set an alarm each day to clean your devices with their cleaning kit; with daily cleanings, you can hear clear sound all summer long.
2. Dry Your Hearing Aids
Extra sweating or days by the lake also expose your devices to moisture. Place your hearing aids in a specialty electric dryer or a drying jar filled with desiccating beads to remove moisture. Drying your devices every few days, or more often if you spend a lot of time at the lake, should be sufficient.
3. Use Hearing Aid Clips
Hearing aid clips are an essential accessory for active people. The clips attach your devices to your shirt. Wearing the clips during hikes or days kayaking will ensure that you won’t lose your devices if they fall out of your ears.
4. Keep Your Hearing Aids Out of the Heat
Excessive heat can warp the delicate components of your hearing aids. You can wear them throughout the day, but avoid leaving them or their batteries in your car or on your home windowsills.
5. Don’t Skip Service Appointments
Hearing aid service appointments give us the chance to professionally clean your devices and check that their programming still matches your needs. If it’s been a while since your last appointment, contact Today’s Hearing to put hearing aid care on your summer schedule.
