Hearing aids are complex electronic devices. Fortunately, unlike an off-brand television, hearing aids are able to be repaired instead of replaced when something goes wrong.
Before you get in your car and drive down to our Katy office, try some of the troubleshooting tips we have outlined below.
Is there sound coming out of your hearing aid?
If not, make sure the battery is inserted correctly. Replace the battery if you (or your battery tester) think it is dead or dying. Remove any excess earwax from the earmold and try replacing the wax guard. If your hearing aid has tubing, check to see if there is any buildup of moisture. If so, clean it and dry it. Last but not least, make sure your hearing aid was not accidently switched to T-coil mode.
Are you experiencing feedback or whistling?
If so, turn down the volume. Then, remove your hearing aid from your ear and reinsert it. Make sure there is nothing blocking or covering your hearing aid.
Does the sound from your hearing aid sound weak or distorted?
If so, your battery may be dead or dying; replace it with a new one. Open the battery compartment and clean it with a dry cloth. You should also try cleaning the earmold or tubing and replace the wax guard.
