Caring for your hearing aids will help keep them in top working order and extend their lifespan. It’s a great way to protect your investment, and will ensure they are performing as well as they should be. The most important thing you can do is clean your hearing aids regularly. We suggest doing so on a daily basis. Remember, moisture, heat, earwax, and dirt are the enemies! All can wreak havoc with the electronic circuitry, and keeping your aids clean is the best way to prevent any problems from occurring. To clean your aids, always use a soft, dry cloth and gently wipe all exposed surfaces. Avoid using water, solvents, cleaning fluids and alcohol, all of which may cause damage. Pay special attention to the microphone inlet, which can become clogged with debris, and the battery contacts, which frequently attract dirt and dust. If using hairspray or lotions, apply those before inserting your hearing aids. You may wish to invest in cleaning equipment such as a multi-tool. This versatile instrument includes a wire loop, magnet, and brush, and is very helpful in removing earwax and dirt from difficult to reach places. Alternatively, you can buy cleaning tools and brushes separately. Visit our Hearing Aid Accessories page for more information.
