Diagnostic services give us the opportunity to perform tests in order to understand what is causing your hearing loss, and allow us to develop custom treatment plans designed to help improve your quality of life. These include:
Hearing aids help the majority of patients with hearing loss communicate more effectively. In order to maximize performance and extend their lifespan, regular servicing is recommended. We want you to get the most out of your investment, and provide the following hearing aid services:
A consultation includes a discussion of your audiometric results, hearing aid candidacy, and hearing aid/assistive listening device options that are best suited for your individual test results and needs.
Digital hearing devices have the ability to be programmed to an individual’s specific loss. Programming adjustments are made during the initial fitting process, with changes in hearing and at the patient’s request.
Hearing involves a series of events in which the ear converts sound waves into electrical signals and generates nerve impulses that are sent to the brain, where they are interpreted as sound. The ear consists of three main parts: the outer, middle and inner ear.
No two ears are alike. The best way to ensure a comfortable, secure fit and maximum noise protection is to invest in a pair of custom ear molds. Usually made from a soft material such as acrylic or plastic, ear molds are designed from impressions of your ear canals and outer ears. Custom ear molds using filters or solid plugs can reduce damaging noise to safe levels. Specialized products that protect hearing but still allow the ability to hear speech and outside sounds are available for individuals who work or play in noisy environments. The consistent use of customized ear molds can help prevent hearing loss.
Do you think old age is the number one cause of hearing loss in America? Many of our Katy patients are surprised to learn that noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) has actually become the leading cause of hearing impairments in the U.S. In fact, NIHL is responsible for at least 25% of all cases of hearing loss in Texas. The good news is that NIHL is completely preventable by protecting your ears anytime there’s a risk of damaging your hearing.
The Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP) is a statewide program that provides assistive listening devices (ALDs) and amplified phones to residents of the state of Texas who have a documented hearing loss. Through this program, individuals who qualify for financial assistance receive vouchers to purchase specialized assistive equipment and services.
Musician’s ear monitors were developed especially for musicians, to help protect their ears during loud concert performances while allowing them to hear the music mix in their ear at a much lower volume. Dr. Harrison has extensive experience working with musicians and sound engineers to design and implement hearing conservation programs. She has worked with world-renowned bands such as U2, Aerosmith, the Dave Matthews Band and many others.
